PepsiCo has recently revealed that their current chief human resources officer, Ronald Schellekens, has decided to retire by the end of this year. In his place, Becky Schmitt will take on the role of executive vice president and chief human resources officer. She will report directly to Ramon Laguarta, chairman and CEO, PepsiCo, and will take on all responsibilities starting from October 1.

Schmitt is backed by three decades experience in HR leadership. Prior to her joining with PepsiCo, she was with Cognizant, a multinational IT services and consulting firm. She also has held several executive HR positions at Walmart, including the role of vice president and chief people officer for Sam’s Club. Additionally, Schmitt spent more than two decades at Accenture, where she held multiple senior HR positions globally, including an assignment in India.

Schmitt holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and is currently a board member for the Teach for America, NYC chapter.

“Ronald’s leadership has been instrumental in progressing how we continue to build a human-centric organization, spearheading The PepsiCo Way to unify our culture, as well as continuously optimising our operating model to enable our long-term success,” said Ramon Laguarta, chairman and CEO, PepsiCo. He also thanked him for his great leadership and contributions towards the growth of the company and welcomed Schmitt wishing her luck for the new role.

Coming to Schellekens, he returned to PepsiCo in 2018, and has been instrumental in advancing their efforts to enhance talent and diversity. He also spearheaded their operating model, making them stand as a top employer.

On his retirement, Schellekens expressed his gratitude towards the company and Laguarta. “I look forward to continuing to work business as usual and supporting Becky in her transition,” Ronald Schellekens added.
