Spotify allows staff to work from home till the end of the year

None of its 5,000 full-time employees will be forced to come to office, and its 50 offices will open up in phases, only when conditions are found to be fit.

Organisations are increasingly showing their willingness to continue with the work from (WFH) arrangement, at least till the end of 2020, if not more. Spotify, the provider of media services and music streaming services has joined the likes of Google and Facebook, to allow its employees to work from home throughout this year.

According to the Company, keeping the safety of its employees in mind, it has decided to extend WFH for all its 50,000 employees globally. It will keep on tracking local government guidelines city wise and open up its 50 offices in a phased manner, whenever conditions are found to be absolutely safe. None of its employees will be forced to come to office.

For the benefit of its customers, Spotify has added a group season feature to ensure better engagement. This makes it possible for its premium users to listen to tracks together and also choose the season.

The first quarter brought in better than expected revenue and earnings, with the number of subscribers exceeding its target of 130 million premium users. The Company, however, plans to go slow on hiring.

Recently, Spotify struck a deal in India to help fill the gap in its catalogue in India. The Swedish company has tied up with the country’s music label, Saregama to offer over 100,000 retro and new-age songs in more than 24 languages, to users in India, which is amongst the largest entertainment markets in Asia.
