Vedanta has announced a distinctive inclusion policy for its transgender employees as a part of promoting inclusivity and diversity across the organisation. The company is extending additional medical benefits, including a 30-day gender reaffirmation leave and financial support of up to Rs. 2 lakhs for gender reaffirmation surgery.
The initiative is a part of the company’s month-long celebration of inclusivity called ‘Zinclusion’, which featured guest speakers such as Laxmi Narayan Tripathi and Ella D’Verma.
During the ‘Zinclusion’ session, Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, an activist, actress, Bharatnatyam dancer, motivational speaker, and entrepreneur, expressed her appreciation for the leaders who are actively embracing diversity and inclusion policies. “I believe the medical benefit policies announced by Vedanta Hindustan Zinc for their transgender employees will go a long way in embracing inclusivity across the organisation,” she added. She also emphasised how this initiative strengthens and reaffirms the organisation’s commitment to equality and ensuring employment opportunities for everyone.
Moreover, in the announcement of the inclusion policy, Priya Agarwal Hebbar, chairperson of Hindustan Zinc, and non-executive director, Vedanta, emphasised the active efforts of Vedanta in fostering a culture that embraces diversity and provides equal opportunities for everyone. “With this policy, we aim to create an environment that not only recognises the unique needs and experiences of transgender employees but also champions their well-being and personal growth,” she added.
Alongside the policy, the company has been proactively fostering diversity, inclusion, and social responsibility through ongoing training programs and workshops. These initiatives educate and raise awareness among employees about the significance of establishing an inclusive working environment. Additionally, with these trainings and workshops, the company aims to attain a 40 per cent inclusivity target within its leadership positions by the year 2050.
