Apple’s ‘Giving’ programme saw its employees putting in more than 250,000 hours of volunteer work and raising $125 million in donation to non-profit organisations in 2018.

The programme was launched by the American multinational technology company headquartered in Cupertino, California, in 2016, under which for every hour contributed or ever dollar donated by an Apple staff member, the Company puts in an equal amount of money. Volunteers from across the globe, including China have been participating in the initiative.

The funds thus raised are being donated to 32 charitable organisations in China, including the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation, which has helped over 175,000 people across 24 provinces in the form of disaster relief and preparedness last year.

Even the Company’s CEO has been volunteering at San Jose.

The initiative has helped many local communities as well, including the Point of Pride charity that lends support to the transgender community. Apple employees have also been associated with the ‘Second Harvest Food Bank’ in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, managing to provide almost 55 million meals. The staff has reportedly spent about 3000 hours — the maximum volunteered by Apple staff in the US—sorting and distributing food.

Apple employees have also been voluntarily teaching coding, drawing, photography, music and videography to the underprivileged school students in Ireland and other areas in an attempt to widen their career prospects.
