A new report by the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), in conjunction with Draup, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Accenture, estimates that the demand for cloud technology professionals is likely to rise and touch around 2 million by 2025.
The report, ‘Cloud skills: Powering India’s digital DNA’, states that India has 6,08,000 cloud professionals employed in multiple fields, including technology, where the demand for the profession is expected to soar further in the near future. Around 3,80,000 job openings in this domain came up in 2020, a 40 per cent increase since 2019.
The report details that this demand is going to further spike as key job roles in native application development, network virtualisation, containerisation, and service architecture are expected to experience a boost. The report also points out that the demand for cloud skills outweighs the current supply in India.
The talent pool is expected to grow 2.4 times by compounding the baseline growth of 24 per cent by the annual growth rate. There appears to be an urgency to skill talent further in order to meet the demand. The report estimates that with a more aggressive talent building roadmap (over 30 per cent growth rate), India can increase its cloud talent pool to at least 1.7 million and become the world’s second largest cloud-talent hub.
