The programme is focussed on inspiring unconventional thinking, a solutions mindset, leadership behaviour and client-service competencies among the future workforce.

With the war for talent getting more intense, organisations prefer to catch them young. This is why we see companies queueing up at B-school campuses with their own innovative contests and programmes.

Deloitte too has one by the name of Maverick and it is all set to launch its fourth edition. This industry-academia connect programme, activates students through an engaging business simulation format.

It is focussed on inspiring unconventional thinking, a solutions mindset, leadership behaviour and client-service competencies among the future workforce. It also claims to prepare students for the challenges of a rapidly evolving business world.

S V Nathan, senior director and chief talent officer, Deloitte India, says, “This programme is designed and developed to help create a future workforce that is skilled and trained to succeed in a corporate organisation.”

“Millennials have a spark that can be disruptive and engaging, and programmes like the Maverick help Deloitte to continue to benefit from their fresh thinking,” he adds.

This year, the programme aims to reach out to 100 business schools, which is double the reach of the previous year. The company claims that over 15,500 students have already registered for this year’s programme.

The programme will be held in a multi-stage elimination format, and as is practised, participants will be challenged to experience the life of a consultant in a global professional services organisation. They will be required to demonstrate new-age competencies that define success in the corporate world.

This experience promises to help them become life-ready and career-ready for India Inc.

This year, the regional qualifiers for the Maverick programme are being held across the northern, southern, eastern and western regions of India — and the top teams from each of these regions will compete for the Maverick 2015 title at the grand finale in Deloitte’s Hyderabad office on 04 September, 2015.

Apart from the main business solutions challenge, three additional competitions are held parallel to Maverick to provide a platform for students to showcase their talents.

The ‘War of Bands’ is held for music bands in the campuses to compete against each other, and win a chance to play at the regional rounds and at the grand finale.

‘Be the One’ is a unique contest where students are encouraged to send in their personal stories of success/ achievements that helped shape them into the persons they are.

Students with the most compelling stories stand a chance to share their tales during the regional rounds and also win prizes.

‘Roll the Reel’ is the third contest aimed at providing students with the opportunity to unleash their creative skills leveraging videos and new-age motion graphics. Winning entries will be played at the regional rounds and at the grand finale.
