NIELIT to rework on its structure to fulfill the growing challenges in the IT field.
Skilling the workforce has become important today. With changing times, the workforce needs to be updated with the relevant skills to perform the job better. Industries need to plan programmes to skill the workforce with modern technology, such as machine learning, artificial intelligence, blockchain, and so on.
On similar lines, the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) has planned to formulate new courses to train people in technologies, such as artificial intelligence and blockchain. NIELIT is part of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
NIELIT runs 100 courses related to the information technology and electronics fields currently.
Ravi Shankar Prasad, the electronics and IT minister has instructed the institute to re-work its entire structure to meet the growing challenges in the field of IT.
NIELIT will open at least one branch in every state as part of its expansion plan. Currently, NIELIT has 40 offices excluding a network presence of more than 700 institutes across the country. Apart from providing IT training, the institute is also serving as the nodal implementation agency on behalf of the Department of Electronics & IT for data digitisation of the population of 15 signed states and two union territories. The objective is to facilitate the National Population Register (NPR) project of the Registrar General of India (RGI).
Earlier, the Government had announced that government entities with the widest reach will be used to train people across the country. Currently, there are two lakh common service centres (CSCs) in the country, which will be used to impart training to 1.2 crore people. NEILIT will train around three lakh students, while the Software Technology Park will train 37 lakh IT professionals in India.
As per the Ministry’s instructions, a programme will be prepared by NIELIT to enhance the skill sets of the existing workforces in the Government.
The Government is also focused on creating cyber security experts, as it is an important aspect of a digitally advanced world. India does not have the required number of cyber security professionals to do the job, and therefore, needs to create a pool of experts.
NIELIT will train 4000 government employees in Uttar Pradesh, as per the current orders.
