Samsung India has launched the second edition of its corporate academia programme—Samsung E.D.G.E.— which provides an opportunity to top talents across campuses to showcase their business skills at a national level, and get a chance to start off their career with the company.

As part of this programme, students get a chance to interact with the leadership team at Samsung, work on real-world business problems and come up with unique solutions. The winning team gets a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh and an opportunity to work with Samsung.

Last year, around 900 students participated in the programme. The winner was team ‘Moinmakers’—a three-member team from IIT Madras. They presented the best solution on ‘Leadership Strategy in Digital Payments’. Two students from this team got an internship at Samsung, under which they got trained at its R&D centre, in Bangalore. The third student got an opportunity to work with the Samsung pay team in Gurugram.

2017 will witness the programme getting bigger, because it will be launched in 19 campuses, including engineering colleges, B-schools and other institutes. Students from various domains, such as B-Tech, MBA, Masters of Design and Masters of Social Work, can participate in the programme. This year, students from social work are also being invited to bring in a fresh perspective and ideas from the CSR and sustainability angle.

The programme consists of three rounds. The first round is the Campus Round, where students will form a team, ideate and submit an executive summary of the case given. After the evaluation, two teams from each campus will be shortlisted for the Zonal Round, where all the teams shortlisted will work on the case study and also submit and present the solutions. Finally, 10 teams will be selected for the National Rounds, post which the three winning teams will be decided.

BK Lee, director, human resources, Samsung Southwest Asia said that “Samsung E.D.G.E. is an approach towards honing new-age leadership competencies among students and instilling a spirit of innovation in business leaders of tomorrow. After last year’s success, the scope of this programme has been expanded and we look forward to interacting and engaging with a bigger talent pool this year.”
