The idea behind launching this coding contest is that the tech firms find it difficult to visit every engineering college and tap potential coders.

Finding and hiring the best talent has always been an issue for tech companies. While they are unable to find suitable talent through their hiring processes, their reach is also limited to select engineering colleges. This has created a gap, wherein on one side there are tech companies searching for tech geeks and on the other side there are talented tech geeks without a platform to showcase their skills.

TechGig has launched a code contest ‘Virtual Campus League’ in India, for students of engineering colleges. It will provide a chance to participants to showcase their coding skills to more than 25 top IT/tech firms.

The idea behind launching this coding contest is that the tech firms find it difficult to visit every engineering college and tap potential coders. This contest will help them get the best coders from across the campuses. They can then hire them on the basis of their performance and expertise. This contest is not limited to the IITs but also to other engineering colleges.

Dipti Tandon, VP-corporate strategy, Times Internet Limited and head-product & technology, TechGig said that, “Our vision with Virtual Campus League is to create a platform for all engineering students and graduates to have a fair chance to showcase their skills to the industry. This will help in two ways – students will be able to showcase their knowledge to top companies; and secondly, it will give participating companies access to the desired talent pool, which is beyond their reach. College training and placement offices or TPOs will also be able to monitor the performance of their students’.

The students of second, third and fourth years of engineering colleges, possessing coding skills, can participate in this contest. Engineers who have passed out in 2017 , and have less than a year’s experience can participate in this contest too.

The contestants will go through a coding and aptitude test, where the scores obtained will be used to generate an all India ranking. The participating IT firms will select the participants based on the rankings and shortlist them for interviews and internship.

Top rankers will get prizes worth Rs 1 Lakh, and certificates with all India ranks. TechGig T-shirts will be provided to the top two rankers of every college and all the contestants will get online certificates with all India ranks, from TechGig.

TechGig has partnered with 30 NITs for this contest. All engineering colleges can register for the contest free of cost.
Commenting on the contest, Ramathreya Krishnamurthi, business head, TimesJobs & TechGig said that “This is a completely new concept in India, designed only for engineering students and freshers with less than a year’s work experience. More than 25 companies have already confirmed their participation in the Virtual Campus League, with names, such as Amadeus, Coho, Delhivery in the line-up. We are sure that engineering students will participate in huge numbers and make the most of this opportunity with the tech giants”.
