While Intel had announced about 4,000 layoffs across the US, the figure has now been revised to 5,000. The company has reportedly confirmed that at least 5,000 jobs will be eliminated across the country this week.
The objective is cut costs and streamline operations. The revision was reflected in the company’s latest filings Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act, say media reports.
Intel had announced last month that in July 2025 it would begin cutting jobs with an aim to restructure and ensure streamlined operations at its factories. It had planned to lay off 15 to 20 per cent of its foundry workers, which was expected to affect over 10,000 employees globally, which is about a tenth of its global manufacturing team. The layoff exercise had started at the company with job cuts beginning on 15 July, at its Aloha and Hillsboro facilities, in Oregon. While 500 permanent roles were estimated to be cut at Oregon, the figure has now reportedly been revised to over 2,300.
It is pertinent to mention here that Hillsboro in Oregon houses some of Intel’s biggest factories and research centres. In fact, Intel’s facility here is the largest employer of the city. With these layoffs, about 12 per cent of the local workforce is expected to be impacted.
In California too, Intel has doubled the number of job cuts to about 1,935, while in Arizona the figure may go up to 696.
