Microsoft is getting more serious than ever with the performance of its employees. The software giant has decided to eliminate low performers, and how! The low performers have been given two options. Either improve by being part of a performance-improvement plan or leave. That is not all; Microsoft has decided not to rehire such underperforming employees for two years! No internal transfers for these employees either.

It has not been too long since the company eliminated about 2000 employees for their underperformance. These employees were not given severance pay either. There are some reports that a fresh round of layoffs can be expected in May. The layoffs in May will primarily affect mid-level managers and non-tech employees say reports.

Business Insider reports that Microsoft has designed tools that will help identify and address low performers while accelerating high performers. The company is reportedly focusing on growth and expects employees to be accountable for their work.

The identified underperformers have reportedly been given the choice to become part of a performance improvement plan or PIP or else exit the organisation altogether. Such workers will not be considered for any internal transfers.

The performance assessments at Microsoft are known to follow a scale of 0 to 200. As per the position of the employee on this scale, they are awarded stocks and cash bonuses.
