Tesla is looking for candidates to fill 13 openings in India. Yes, going by the job positings on LinkedIn, it looks like the electric vehicle manufacturer is set to enter the Indian market.
The openings posted by Tesla are for customer support specialist, inside sales advisor, Tesla advisor, service advisor, order operations specialist, service manager, store manager, parts advisor, business operations analyst, service technician, consumer-engagement manager, customer-support advisor, and delivery operations specialist.
While five of these positions are based in Mumbai as well as Delhi, the rest are based in Mumbai alone.
This isn’t the first time that Tesla has hinted at entering the Indian market. Earlier too it had seemed keen but was discouraged by the heavy import duties.
Recently, however, the Indian government has cut the basic customs duty on luxury cars that cost more than $40,000. The duty has been reduced from 110 per cent to 70 per cent. This makes India an attractive market for high-end EVs. Although the market in India may not be as good or as developed as that of China, it did manage to sell one lakh EVs in 2024.
