Musk, however, has not given any official figure yet. Therefore, it is not known as to how many people will be rendered jobless.
Ahead of the formal completion of the deal to acquire Twitter on 27 October 2022, Musk had indicated that the costs were more than the revenue at Twitter and that there was excess staff. As Twitter employees had been made aware of an impending reduction in global workforce early on, this layoff will not take them by surprise.
Aware of the huge cultural difference between Tesla and Twitter, many employees of Twitter had already left even before the completion of the deal. Experts had predicted that several more Twitter staff members would call it quits post closure of the deal.
“By 9AM PST on Friday Nov. 4th, everyone will receive an individual email with the subject line: Your Role at Twitter. Please check your email, including your spam folder,” says the internal memo that The Verge has published.
The memo goes on to say, “To help ensure the safety of each employee as well as Twitter systems and customer data, our offices will be temporarily closed and all badge access will be suspended. If you are in an office or on your way to an office, please return home”.
As per the memo, all employees — those impacted and those not — will receive official notices with details today.
