Renault is hoping that its electric €25,000 R5 city car will help increase sales. Next year, it intends to introduce more models including an electric version of the 1960s-era 4L economy car and the sub-€35,000 R4. By early 2026, Renault’s electric vehicles, including all older models, will be fitted with cheaper lithium iron phosphate, or LFP, batteries.
Meanwhile, other auto manufacturers such as Volkswagen and Stellantis, have been struggling with delays in the introduction of new EVs because of software issues and snags. In fact, these companies have gone ahead and revealed their intentions to trim their workforces and shut down some of their factories.
In fact, employees of Volkswagen and members of the IG Metall Union walked out on 2 December, 2024 to protest against the massive job cuts that VW plans.
