Microsoft has entered into a partnership with the State Bank of India (SBI) Foundation to train more than 500 differently-abled people and help them find employment in the banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sector.
Given the fact that there are 26 million differently-abled in the country, it is essential to ensure that technology is leveraged to get them to contribute to the economy meaningfully, and this collaboration is a move in the right direction.
Along with the SBI Foundation, Microsoft will help to develop a marketplace powered by artificial intelligence (AI), which will help employers in the BFSI space get in touch with differently-abled people who require upskilling and suitable job opportunities.
The programme will be spread over the next three years, with 500 youths with disabilities receiving training in the first year. The upskilling will make them employable in the BFSI sector across Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and the National Capital Region.
Several government organisations, non-profit organisations and industry skilling bodies will be lending their support to this programme.
The SBI Foundation is also helping other banks follow in its footsteps, and work towards empowering those with disabilities and including them in the active workforce of the banking sector.
This tie-up is a step in the right direction to help those with disabilities to make the most of the opportunities out there, not only in the BFSI sector, but other sectors as well.
