Viacom 18, the Indian entertainment network, is doing all it can to ensure gender inclusion. It had already introduced the 36-weeks maternity leave and flexible work arrangement facilities, and has now launched child daycare service for its staff. Aptly called Viacubs, this facility has been introduced as part of its WAVE initiative, which aims to ensure the safety, wellness and career development of its women employees. Short for ‘women at Viacom 18’, the programme offers a reliable support system, thus enabling the working parent to focus on and balance both the professional and family fronts.

Abhinav Chopra, chief human resource officer, Viacom18 commented, “WAVE was introduced with the aim of encouraging women to grow and take on more leadership roles to promote gender equity and inclusion at the workplace. Our women employees should not be in a position where they must choose between their careers and family. Viacubs will ensure a smooth transition for the returning mother with the assurance that her child will be well attended to, in a nurturing environment.

At Viacom18, we aim to provide the best of both worlds to our employees – fulfilling careers and quality family time. We understand the concerns that parents face when there’s a new addition to the family. Therefore, Viacubs opens its doors to new fathers, as much as to the new mothers, towards supporting their parenting journey.”

The first Viacubs centre was launched in Mumbai in collaboration with KLAY Schools. Viacubs covers an area of 2,500 square feet with dedicated spacesand facilities for children, infant room, toddler room, nursing room, play areas, reading corners, pantry area, and so on. Fun and learning activities are also organised depending on the age group of the children. The facility covers children in the age range of six months to six years. There is also a backup care facility for parents who wish to use the service for a short term or in case of emergencies. The idea is to provide a home away from home for employees’ children combined with learning, enjoyment and expert care. With sufficient caretakers, the children are kept safe and given the best care.

Viacubs will soon be launched across Viacom18 offices in India.
