The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Google India have come together to scale up the mobile developer ecosystem in the country. They have formed the Android Skill Development Programme for this initiative.

They will both work together to impart mobile development training on the android and Web platforms. This will scale up and improve the quality of the mobile app development ecosystem in India.

Under this programme, a 100-hour course will be introduced to train developers to create applications for the mobile platform. These applications can be used on smartphones and tablets running on the android operating system. The course will be delivered by NSDC’s partner agencies, which are outside the formal education system.

Announcing the collaboration, Manish Kumar, MD & CEO, NSDC says, “This is a timely association considering promising development in the telecommunication and IT sectors and their importance for economic progression of the country. The collaboration aims to accelerate mobile skill training and create opportunities for youth in the country.”

The two entities will also work together to teach the android trainers, so that they are able to deliver the latest skills/training.

Commenting on the collaboration, Peter Lubbers, head of Google developer training, says, “We believe India is uniquely placed to innovate and shape the Internet experience of billions of users, who are and will come online on the mobile platform. By building a world-class curriculum and making it easily accessible to millions of students and developers in India, we want to contribute to the Skill India initiative.

India will need extra 24.4 crore skilled people by year 2022 in 21 high-growth sectors, according to a study by IMaCS. The need of the hour is to produce the right talent to meet the rising demands of the skilled workforce.
