50,000 MP state employees go without salary for 6 months; probe underway

Investigation is on to find out whether false employee codes may have been generated

Nearly 50,000 state government employees in Madhya Pradesh have not received their salaries for the past six months, triggering a large-scale investigation. Despite valid employee codes existing, the salaries have not been released from the state treasury, raising questions about the authenticity of their employment status.
The Department of Treasury and Accounts is probing the matter. Each Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) has been asked to certify that no unauthenticated or fake employees are working in their offices. The investigation will help reveal whether false employee codes were generated.
Of the 50,000 affected, around 40,000 are regular employees, while the remaining 10,000 are temporary or contractual employees. The total pending salary amount is estimated to be Rs 230 crore. Authorities say that because these employees possess valid codes, their salaries could potentially be released at any time—unless irregularities are found.
In normal cases, salary delays take place due to suspension or deputation. However, such a high number of employees facing salary blocks has raised serious doubts.  The DDO certifications will help determine whether the employee records were manipulated or whether fake codes were used.
Surprisingly, even though thousands were unpaid for half a year, nobody had filed a formal complaint. This  has only added to the mystery prompting urgent verification efforts by the government.
The ongoing inquiry aims to uncover whether the delay stems from administrative lapses or a larger fraud within the system. Will salaries be released—or will action be taken? That’s what everyone wants to know.
