Ajman has introduced a new remote-work policy for local government employees during Ramadan. This decision aligns with the UAE’s broader goal of fostering work-life balance and supporting community well-being.
The Department of Human Resources announced that all government staff will work from home on Fridays throughout the holy month.
Under the directive, official Ramadan working hours will be adjusted. From Monday to Thursday, employees will work from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM. On Fridays, work hours will be reduced further, that is, 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon. Government entities enjoy the flexibility to implement the policy while ensuring public services remain unaffected.
Departments operating on a shift system will alter their schedules basis operational demands. However, no shift will exceed five and a half hours per day. Additionally, a flexible work structure may be introduced at the discretion of each department head, ensuring essential services remain functional while being considerate of employee needs.
Recently, the United Arab Emirates or the UAE also confirmed a two-hour reduction in working hours for private-sector employees during Ramadan. The decision, announced by the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE), allows businesses to adopt flexible work arrangements or remote work, depending on their operational needs.
For public-sector employees, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) has set working hours from 9 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, government employees will work from 9 AM to 12 PM.
