Union Minister Jitendra Singh recently appreciated the fact that recruitment exams have been expanded to 13 regional languages and not just limited to Hindi and English, as was the case a decade ago. He also called for the creation of a single portal for job applications so that youth do not waste time and energy submitting applications from different platforms.

At a recent meeting of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Singh emphasised the government’s commitment to streamlining the recruitment process and improving governance through technology-driven reforms.

He highlighted that the average timeline of the recruitment cycle has been cut almost by 50 per cent, coming down to eight months from 15. The aim is to further reduce this time in the future.

He went on to confirm that rules and details of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024 have been notified.

Officials have been directed to establish standards and guidelines for conducting computer-based tests, ensuring a level playing field for all candidates.

Taking stock of Mission Karmayogi, Singh noted that as of date, nearly 89 lakh Karmayogis have been onboarded. He emphasised the importance of capacity building for government employees, focusing on their overall development and increased workplace efficiency.

Instructions were given to create a repository of good governance practices and amplify them through outreach for other departments to follow. Stressing the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in governance, Singh cited its success in CPGRAMS 2.0, an AI-enabled grievance-redressal system.

Singh also stressed continuous digitalisation, recalling how during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, 70-80 per cent of government work was carried out online, thanks to the Digital India Mission, envisioned in 2015. He emphasised the need for process re-engineering to revise guidelines for framing and amending recruitment rules.

Officials were told to ensure inclusive and equitable policies while leveraging technology to foster transparency and accountability.
