Bharat Sanchar Nigam’s employee union has alleged that the Company has been very irregular when it comes to payment of salaries. The BSNL Employee Union (BSNLEU) is demanding that the salaries of employees for November be disbursed along with their December salary, before the New Year.

The Union claims to have written to the higher-ups several times to draw attention to their plight, but no action has been taken yet.

As per rules, the salary is supposed to be disbursed on the last working day of the month, which has not been happening. Apparently, the management has been giving the excuse of a weak economic situation owing to the pandemic and the ensuing lockdown and halting of commercial activities.

However, with commercial activities having resumed, the BSNLEU is now demanding that pending salaries be cleared.

All Unions and Associations of BSNL (AUAB), the BSNL employees’ group, had recently written to the prime minister and the minister of communications highlighting the fact that without 4G it will be impossible for BSNL to survive for more than two years.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has now extended BSNL’s unified license (UL) for the next 20 years. It has also allowed it to offer services in Delhi and Mumbai after BSNL submitted a bank guarantee (BG) worth Rs 250-crore. That means, BSNL will now be able to offer seamless 2G, 3G, and 4G services across all telecom circles in the 900MHz, 1800MHz, 2100MHz, and 2500 spectrum bands.
