Group C and D employees of the Tamil Nadu government will receive a Pongal bonus of up to Rs 3,000, as announced by the State government. Teachers will also be granted the bonus.
Full-time and part-time employees who earn a total pay or honorarium, or a fixed salary and have put in a minimum of 240 days of work in a financial year will get an ad-hoc bonus of Rs 1,000. Pensioners from Group C and D, as well as family pensioners and employees who have retired as village officers or assistants will get Rs 500 each. All other individual pensioners will also receive this gift of Rs 500.
A budget of about Rs 163 crore has been set aside for bonus payment. The Tamil Nadu government has already declared Pongal holidays from 14 to 16 January.
A similar bonus had been paid to Tamil Nadu government employees for Diwali too, in October 2024. While a 20 per cent bonus had been announced for employees of profit-making PSUs, a 10 per cent bonus was announced for those working in loss-making PSUs.
Diwali bonus of 10 per cent had been given to state government employees of Grade C and D working in the Tamil Nadu Housing Board and the Chennai Water Supply and Sewerage Board. The Grade C and D employees in the Tamil Nadu Drinking Water Supply Board had been given a bonus of 8.3 per cent.
