After a long wait, teachers of Delhi government’s Sanskrit, Urdu and Punjabi academies will finally receive a significant increment. The Delhi Government’s Education Department has decided to double their salaries with effect from July, 2017.

It is reported that the PGT teachers who work on contract at the academies and were receiving a salary of Rs 21,291, will now take home a salary of Rs 49,980. The salary of TGT teachers has also been raised to Rs 47,145 from Rs 20,989. For years, these contractual teachers were being paid a lot less than other teachers of Delhi’s government schools.

The proposal for revision of pay scale for these teachers was approved by the Delhi Cabinet in October. The revision is expected to benefit those in the administrative posts in universities and colleges as well, as per the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC).

The move is aimed to ensure the provision of quality education in these institutions.
