An employee from Shenzhen, China, received a year’s worth of paid leave at his company’s annual dinner. The event happened on a Sunday night, last week, making many people envious throughout the nation.

As per Chinese media, the company had not organised its annual dinner for three years due to the pandemic. And now that  things were getting back to normal, they hosted the dinner to help employees cope with work-related stress. A lucky draw was also held.

Reportedly, the lucky employee is associated with the company as a manager. He was captured in a viral video holding a large check that had ‘365 days of paid leave’ written on it. Additionally, an administrative staff member named Ms. Chen can be heard in the video explaining that the winner had inquired repeatedly about the legitimacy of the prize. Ms. Chen also mentioned that even the boss was amazed that someone had actually won the prize.

Ms. Chen further stated that the company will hold a discussion with the winner to determine if he wishes to avail the paid leave or convert it into cash.

According to local media, the man frequently travels as part of his work responsibilities. However, due to the unconventional nature of the prize, some people were debating its usefulness. On Douyin, the Chinese equivalent of TikTok, people left many comments questioning the scheme. Some users even asked if the employee had the courage to accept the prize as it was possible that by the time he returned, his role would already have been filled by someone else.
