Carlsberg Group appoints Joris Huijsmans as CHRO

Huijsmans, who has two decades of experience, will lead the global HR leadership team

Backed by over 20 years of international experience in fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), Joris Huijsmans will begin working as the chief human resources officer (CHRO) for Carlsberg Group from January 1, 2021 onwards.

In 2016, Huijsmans joined Carlsberg as vice president – group strategy. He went on to be appointed as the vice president of urban development and new business, and subsequently in 2019, became the managing director of Carlsberg export and licence. Huijsmans has held senior management positions in the Netherlands, Mexico, Singapore and Hungary, which makes him ideal for the role.

He has honed his skills through result-oriented, analytical and out-of-the box thinking with a broad strategic vision. He is skilled in business turnaround, mergers and acquisitions, start-up situations and major restructuring of businesses.

His appointment comes after the recent shuffle in Carslberg’s senior management post the recent merger of the company with Marston, the British brewing company. The new Carlsberg-Marston joint venture will have access to Marston’s vast pub estate for its beer portfolio.

The new $ 780 million Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company, also appointed Paul Davies, former Carlsberg VP of craft and speciality as the chief executive officer. Ralph Findlay, Marston’s chief executive got appointed as a non-executive chairman of Carlsberg Marston’s Brewing Company.

Huijsmans holds a master’s degree in civil law from the Leiden University in The Netherlands. He will start work from Copenhagen itself, which is the headquarters of the Danish brewing giant.
