In its endeavour to attract skilled employees, Germany is offering the jobseeker visa or long-term residency to those interested in looking for employment opportunities in the country. This job seeker visa allows applicants to stay in the country for six months and look for a job. Only if they succeed in finding employment within that period, will they be granted a German work permit or work visa, allowing them to stay on and work in the Country.

Graduates or postgraduates from a German university or those with an equivalent foreign degree may apply. The applicants should have at least five years of experience in their field of study and be able to produce proof of their financial soundness. In other words, they should be able to prove that they are capable of paying for their stay and possess travel/medical insurance for the six-month period, till they receive the work permit.

Along with proofs of all qualifications and work experience certificates, the applicants should of course possess a passport valid for at least 12 months after their scheduled return, passport size pictures as per biometric specifications, a letter detailing the candidate’s purpose of visit, individual plan for seeking a job, backup plans in case job is not found, detailed curriculum vitae, address in Germany during the six-month stay, and so on.
