In a first of its kind move, the Government of India has come up with an online employment exchange platform to cater to senior citizens seeking job opportunities. This virtual platform launched by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment’s (MoSJ&E) is aptly called SACRED, short for Senior Able Citizens for Re-Employment in Dignity. The platform will be operational with effect from October 1, 2021.

The portal will be dedicated to people above 60 who are trying to find employment. All they need to do is, register on the portal giving details of their education, experience, skills and areas of experiences. The platform will offer full-time, part-time, freelance, and pro bono opportunities to senior citizens. It may also include retaining and re-skilling options as well.

The Ministry has clarified that the portal does not guarantee jobs, but only acts as an enabler for employment seekers. It is a platform where employers can post job roles or projects along with specifications.

The inter-ministerial committee had earlier allocated a budget of Rs 70 crores for the SACRED portal. Of this, Rs 10 crores was set aside to set up the exchange portal and the rest for maintenance and marketing.

With the number of senior citizens rising in the country, the platform is aimed to enable various stakeholders to come together to offer work opportunities to the elderly. The Ministry hopes that various industry associations including the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII), Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI) and the Association of Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) will come forward to facilitate increasing employment opportunities for elders.

In kerala the retirement age is 56 . They have no other choice to to register their name in the portal as the minimum age is fixed for registering name is 60 as per the present order. So Govt may please be reduce the age limit from 60 to 56.So all of us from Kerala can be a part of this portal as Govt of India desires.Hoping a positive action.

Very good idea by the Govt. To help the senior citizens to earn an income by doing job,.It also helps seniors who has no pensios . I request Govt to provis space for selection of an area of work near his residence as preference and directions may be included for working hours also.

Sounds ok. The kind of anti-citizen moves this Govt. has unleashed over the years and prolonged inflation, lower GDP growth, etc., they needed to show these gimmicks anyways. We can only hope that these schemes prove to be beneficial to the elderly citizens and do not end up remaining some joomlas as always.
