The Gujarat government has approved a 3 per cent increase in dearness allowance (DA) for its employees and pensioners. The hike raises the DA from 50 to 53 per cent of basic pay and will be implemented retrospectively from 1 July, 2024.
This decision benefits nearly nine lakh individuals, including state-government employees, pensioners, panchayat staff, and teaching and non-teaching personnel in secondary and higher secondary schools. Employees in aided non-government schools under the 7th Pay Commission will also receive the revised allowance.
The arrears for the DA increase from July to November will be disbursed with the December salary and pension payments in January 2025. The revised allowance ensures that eligible employees and pensioners receive a substantial financial boost starting this new year.
The benefit will extend, with modifications, to primary teachers and employees on deputation or transfer within panchayats who are approved for pay revision under the 7th Pay Commission framework. This move aims to ensure uniformity in benefits across different categories of government staff.
The hike in DA is expected to provide financial relief to government employees and pensioners, particularly in light of inflationary pressures. By implementing the increase retrospectively, the government acknowledges the need to address the rising cost of living for its workforce and retirees.
This decision underscores the state’s commitment to supporting its employees and pensioners while maintaining alignment with the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission.
