Haryana government employees can now use social- media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube to create content of literary, artistic, or scientific nature.
The announcement was made in the state assembly by Cabinet Minister Krishan Kumar Bedi.
Government staff can also use these platforms to spread awareness and share knowledge both during and after duty hours. This decision reflects the growing role of social media in promoting information and government schemes.
However, there are financial restrictions. Employees earning income through their content can retain up to Rs 8,000 annually if the earnings are unrelated to their government role. If their earnings exceed this limit, they must deposit one-third of the extra amount into the state exchequer.
The decision highlights the state’s recognition of social media as a valuable communication tool while ensuring that government employees follow guidelines on additional earnings.
