Amazon India has launched a scheme to employ former military personnel in collaboration with the Office of the Director General of Resettlement (DGR) and the Army Welfare Placement Organisation (AWPO).
The objective is to provide job opportunities to defence veterans and their spouses in their fulfilment, sortation, and delivery centres across India. The initiative reiterates the American multinational technology company’s commitment to diversity and inclusion.
The Company already has more than 17,500 army veterans and spouses in various departments, including transportation, customer fulfilment, facilities management and security operations. Now, the programme in India will add 25,000 ex-military personnel and their spouses within the next two years, in a more formal manner.
The recruitments will be done to fill up vacancies in supervisory and lead roles. Training will be provided in cloud computing solutions. Posts for managers, senior managers, and director will also see ex-military personnel, who will get a chance to lead delivery stations and networks, and fulfilment centres. These hires will be a part of the ‘Amazon Warriors’, a global support network for former military personnel joining the corporate world.
Having been part of various job fairs arranged by the Army, applications have already started pouring in.
Microsoft also follows a practice of hiring people who have served in the Army, navy, air force, marine corps or coast guard. In fact, it has been tapping the approx. 200,000 people leave active duty for civilian life and has been giving them the opportunity to build their careers in the corporate world.
