To tackle the demands of the holiday season, Amazon is all set to hire 30,000 full-time and part-time employees in its corporate, technology and customer fulfillment departments. It will hold a career fair to recruit candidates, and will offer them a minimum of $15 per hour in addition to other benefits as well as training on the job.

At the career fairs, people will be hired for Amazon’s retail stores, data centres, technology hubs as well as headquarters. Hiring will be done for ‘entry-level’ roles too, at the Company’s fulfilment centres where there would be an opportunity to work with robotics technology, software-development engineers as well as computer-vision scientists, who work on Alexa and Amazon Go.

The job fairs will be held on 17 September, across Arlington, Virginia; Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Nashville and Seattle. Through these fairs, interested people will also be informed about the ways in which they can set up a business with Amazon, or establish a delivery business, or indulge in online sale or even book publishing.

At a time when job seekers are hearing more about layoffs and non-production, Amazon’s plans to hire thousands comes as good news.

In 2018, Amazon had announced that it would hike the minimum wage to $15 for its employees across the US. However, its employees recently protested against the unsatisfactory working conditions and wage policies.

The staff, especially those stationed at the warehouses, have been complaining about the physical and mental effect of the taxing work. They have been demanding better benefits, job security, as well as better treatment for those injured at work.
