On 14 December, 2019, Indian private lender, Axis Bank hosted the second edition of its exclusive mega job fair, JobX, in Delhi. The fair was organised at the New Police Line Grounds, Model Town.

The event was flagged off by Amulya Patnaik, Delhi Police Commissioner, and Suchana Patnaik, president, Police Families Welfare Society (PFWS).

Axis Bank’s JobX is an exclusive mega job fair aimed at providing employment opportunities to the retired personnel and children of Delhi Police. The event at Model Town was the second edition in Delhi. The first was organised in December last year, at Kingsway Camp.

This is not the first time the Bank is hosting the JobX event. Earlier, it held the Mumbai edition for former Mumbai Police personnel in June, 2018. At that time, more than a 1000 people and 20 companies participated in the fair.

Over 2,000 candidates, including freshers and retired personnel, were provided with registration forms by Delhi Police officials. These forms were uploaded on an online portal that could be accessed by the hiring companies.

The companies shortlisted the candidates and called them for an interview round.

Over 100 companies, across sectors, such as BFSI, manufacturing, IT and security, actively participated in the event to offer jobs to the applicants.

Applauding the event, Patnaik said, “We are delighted to be a part of this initiative that has created a pool of job opportunities for the children of serving and retired Delhi Police Personnel. It is overwhelming to see such huge participation and the enthusiasm of the candidates. I would like to congratulate all the selected candidates and wish them a very bright future.”

In the first Delhi edition last year, over 8500 candidates submitted their registration forms, following which around 6500 were selected.

Ravi Narayanan, head-branch banking, Axis Bank, said, “We are glad to provide our services to the uniformed forces and government institutions. Axis Bank has been proudly offering products and services to cater to the needs of those who take responsibility of protecting the citizens. This initiative is part of our constant endeavour to be of service to the nation. Through JobX, we aim to create an ideal platform for the candidates to showcase their skills and find the right kind of jobs for themselves.”

JobX is an initiative by the Bank to extend its services to the defence personnel and police forces, by providing them with a platform for employment opportunities. Such an opportunity aims to connect interviewees with jobs relevant to them, and help employers to find the right talent with the right skill sets.

“The reality is that today, many of these people in the defence field want to reach out to corporates and apply for jobs but they do not know how. Such job fairs are a way to give them a fair chance at employment as anyone else”

Most of the jobs offered were customer-facing roles, including customer service. For those with relevant experience, positions such as that of relationship managers were also offered.

Speaking on the idea behind this initiative, Rajkamal Vempati, head-HR, Axis Bank, explained that it is the Company’s way of giving back to them for their services. “The reality is that today, many of these people in the defence field want to reach out to corporates and apply for jobs but they do not know how. Such job fairs are a way to give them a fair chance at employment as anyone else.”

Axis is one of the few emerging organisations, which have opened their doors to the retired policemen and army veterans.

People in the armed forces come with a very different set of skills. Their way of people management and handling difficult situations can be quite useful in the corporate setup and can be applied in multiple roles.

“People in the armed and police forces understand the value of service, and most of all, they uphold the value of money which makes them ideal candidates in this sector,” Vempati concludes.
