About 2000 people have been hired by Chinese smartphone-maker Vivo. The Company recently launched the first phase of manufacturing at its Greater Noida facility. Currently, its yearly manufacturing capacity is 33.4 million units.

In alignment with the ‘Make in India’ initiative and as part of its Rs 7500-crore investment plan in the country, Vivo launched the first phase of its new manufacturing facility in WTC Tech Zone, Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh. About eight million devices will be produced here every year. Presently, Vivo’s manufacturing set-up in India has a capacity of 25 million units a year and an 8000-strong workforce. Right now, all the Vivo products in demand in the Indian market are being manufactured indigenously. With time, when the capacity increases, exports may also be considered.

The Greater Noida unit will help the Company fulfil the growing demand in the Indian market. Vivo is gearing up to hire 5000 more employees in the second phase of expansion, which will take place by around June 2020.

In August, the Company had revealed its plans to invest about Rs 3,500 crore in India to not only stretch its capacity but also expand other projects in future. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer had committed to invest a total of about Rs 7,500 crore in the country. At the time, Vivo had revealed its aim to create about 40,000 jobs in India over a span of a decade.
