Kerala’s Labour Department has launched an investigation into a disturbing video that surfaced on social media and television. The video reportedly showed an employee crawling on all fours with a leash tied around their neck!
The footage, believed to have been filmed inside a private firm in Perumbavoor, Ernakulam district, has triggered widespread outrage.
The incident allegedly took place at Keltra, a marketing firm that has come under scrutiny in the past. The company’s owner had previously been arrested in a separate sexual assault case, further intensifying public anger around the recent revelations.
Labour authorities have taken immediate action in response to the viral video. The district labour officer has been directed to conduct a detailed inquiry and submit a report. The Labour Ministry has described the incident as unacceptable and a violation of employee dignity and human rights.
Preliminary police findings suggest that the incident occurred about six months ago. However, statements from other former employees have shed light on troubling practices at the firm. Some have alleged that employees who failed to meet performance targets were subjected to humiliating punishments as part of so-called training methods. These revelations have raised serious concerns about workplace abuse and the lack of oversight in private firms.
Authorities are now under pressure to take swift and appropriate action. The case is expected to trigger serious and broader discussions around workplace conduct, employee rights, and the mechanisms in place to prevent such abuses in Kerala’s corporate sector.
