Tata Steel’s West Bokaro Division has welcomed four employees with disabilities as new CCTV control room operators.
This development is part of the company’s broader ‘Empowering the Capable’ initiative, aimed at enhancing workplace diversity and inclusion. Furthermore, it underscores Tata Steel’s ongoing commitment to fostering a diverse workforce.
Before assuming their roles, the newly-appointed operators will undergo a week-long training programme in Jamshedpur.
Tata Steel has consistently demonstrated its commitment to being an equal-opportunity employer, particularly through initiatives that support differently-abled employees. In the fiscal year 2023-24, the Tata Steel Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP). The partnership aimed to establish a learning ecosystem for organisations and individuals working with persons with disabilities in India.
Furthermore, the Foundation’s SABAL initiative focuses on creating an inclusive infrastructure that promotes skilling, employability and financial independence for persons with disabilities. Additionally, Tata Steel launched the ‘Ananta Quest’ in FY 2023-24, a pioneering case study competition designed for students with disabilities.
This competition offers participants opportunities for live internships and potential job placements at Tata Steel, aligning with the company’s broader goal of achieving a 20 per cent diverse workforce by 2025.
Anurag Dixit, general manager, West Bokaro Division, highlighted the company’s dedication to building an inclusive environment. “We are confident that our new team members will make significant contributions, and we are dedicated to providing them with the support and opportunities they need to thrive,” he added.
