Hundreds of employees from the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) staged a massive protest on Monday, 6 January, 2025, demanding the plant’s merger with Steel Authority of India (SAIL).
The rally began with a motorbike procession and concluded at the Vizag collectorate, highlighting the employees’ unity and determination.
The workers raised slogans advocating the merger as the only feasible solution to address VSP’s financial struggles and secure their jobs. They believe integration with SAIL, a government-owned steel giant, would provide critical financial backing and operational expertise to revive the plant’s fortunes.
Another major grievance voiced during the protest was the inconsistent payment of salaries. Employees have been rather dissatisfaction with frequent delays, which have severely impacted their financial stability and well-being.
The rally drew attention to the increasing dissatisfaction among VSP’s workforce. The plant has been grappling with severe financial losses, production disruptions, and operational uncertainties. These challenges have left employees worried about job security and the future viability of the steelmaker.
Workers argue that merging with SAIL could stabilise operations and bring much-needed relief. They see SAIL’s resources and expertise as vital to overcoming VSP’s current struggles, ensuring sustainable growth, and safeguarding thousands of livelihoods.
The protest emphasised the urgency of addressing these pressing issues and the workforce’s resolve to fight for the plant’s survival.

Already SAIL is facing several issues and merger of infringed asset like RINL certainly going to kill SAIL as well. Some better options are to be explored.
