Visakhapatnam will see 8,000 jobs being created at a soon-to-be established information technology (IT) campus. How? The Government of Andhra Pradesh has sold 21 acres of land to Cognizant, the IT company, which has promised to invest Rs 1,582 crore over the next eight years to set up the said campus. This will also generate 8,000 jobs, with commercial operations to begin in four years, that is, by 2029.
A similar land sale deal was struck with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) earlier this year, in April. Now, Cognizant, the multinational information technology consulting and outsourcing company is gearing up to do its bit to make Visakhapatnam an IT hub.
In April 2025, 21.16 acres of land were allotted to TCS at a token lease price. This property will be used by the Indian multinational to set up an IT campus at an estimated cost of Rs 1,370 crore. About 12,000 jobs are expected to be created as a result, which will help provide employment to the youth of the region and boost the economy.
Around the same time, the state government had agreed to allocate 6.35 acres of land in Guntur district to the Employees’ State Insurance Corporation or ESIC, to establish a 100-bed hospital and residential quarters for ESIC employees.
