Telecom service provider, Bharti Airtel, has brought in Amrita Padda as chief people officer. She will resume her new role with effect from October 1. She will report to the company’s MD and CEO, Gopal Vittal.

Padda, who has moved in from Unilever, where she was the chief people officer for Unilever Marketplace – a newly set up global business unit to transform distributive trade – will replace Samit Deb, who has decided to pursue entrepreneurial opportunities outside of Airtel. Deb had joined the company only in March 2020, and stayed on for around 1.5 years, and prior to that he was chief people officer for BirlaSoft.

Padda, who joined Unilever in May 2000 as a management trainee, grew with the Company. Having risen up the ranks in the last two decades, she managed important portfolios such as global HR director for the procurement vertical, and was head of HR for Unilever, Philippines.

Vittal says in an official communique, “Our people and culture of empowerment are our biggest strengths that enable us to deliver world-class experiences to our customers. Amrita will add immense value to Airtel’s exciting journey, help build new capabilities and ensure the company continues to be a magnet for top talent from across the world.”
