Shahi Exports, the Indian apparel manufacturer and exporter has roped in George Varghese as CHRO. In this role, Varghese will lead the people strategy at the firm.
With close to two decades of experience in HR, Varghese has served in various HR leadership roles in leading companies such as Titan, Accenture and Dr Reddy’s.
Prior to this, Varghese was leading the HR for global business services at First Abu Dhabi Bank. He played a critical role in setting up the HR function and operations of global business services at the Bank.
This alumnus of the Xavier Institute of Social Services (XISS) started his career way back in 2002 as a management trainee with Gati, a part of the Allcargo Logistics Group.
In the initial phase of his career, Varghese honed his skills in various facets of the HR function working with companies such as Flextronics, a multinational electronic contract manufacturer, Dr Reddy’s and Accenture.
At Accenture, Varghese got the opportunity to be team lead and manage recruitment and on-boarding activities.
Moving on from Accenture, Varghese worked in the overseas market when he joined Alghanim Industries, a conglomerate based in Kuwait, between 2007 and 2012.
Alghanim has various businesses from automotive, food and beverages, engineering solutions to consumer and services businesses.
Varghese served the longest stint of his career at Alghanim for more than five years. He joined as a manager for rewards and served his last position as HR manager in the Company.
It was in 2013 that Varghese — who graduated in liberal arts from Kerala University — assumed the position of HR head at Jumbo Electronics, a UAE-based electronics retailer, where he led the HR function for the company in North India. After serving a little more than a year at Jumbo Electronics, Varghese joined the Titan Company as head – HR and spearheaded the HR function for the north region in India.
