Ministry of Defence (MoD) organised an interaction session on 30 November, 2022 with the Indian Defence Industry, under the aegis of the Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers. The objective was to seek job opportunities for the youth that complete their stint with the Armed Forces as Agniveers, under the Corporate Recruitment Plan of the organisations.
The Government is looking at ways to gainfully utilise the expertise of the Agniveers after their tenure with the Armed Forces, which will have made them highly dedicated and disciplined, and therefore, ideal for employment in various sectors engaged in nation building.
It is expected that the skills gathered by the Agniveers during their tenure with the Armed Forces will help build a highly competent and professional workforce, which will be readily available for fruitful and productive engagement by the industry.
Support and commitment has come forth from the senior executives of the companies that attended the session. They have expressed their willingness and eagerness to deploy the ex-Agniveers soon after the first batch completes its term with the Armed Forces.
Assurance has been given for all necessary provisions to be put in place to create recruitment policies that will reserve roles for Agniveers based on their skills. Suggestions were mooted to bridge the skills gap that may exist to make the former Agniveers employable and more suited to the requirements of the industry.
The Indian defence manufacturers have been requested to follow through with their commitment and create relevant policies accordingly, at the earliest.
Chaired by Defence Secretary Shri Giridhar Aramane, the session saw participation by senior executives from major Indian defence industry houses including Larsen & Toubro, Adani Defence, Tata Advanced System, Ashok Leyland and others.
