The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has broken all records this year with more than 900 jobs being offered to its students at the placements this year.
More than 32 per cent of the offers were made in the areas of electrical, chemical, civil and mechanical engineering followed by information technology. Of the total offers, 20 per cent went to IT graduates, while the remaining offers were made in the areas of analytics, management, finance, consulting and research.
Considering the demand for digital expertise, most IT firms including Wipro and Capgemini have been focusing on recruiting digital experts and the best talent in analytics and IT from campuses.
The IITs in the country have realised the need to step in to fulfill the demand for artificial intelligence (AI)skills. Therefore, next academic session onwards, these Institutes will be offering certificate courses and degrees in AI along with machine learning (ML). A BTech in AI and other relevant courses in ML, will soon be made available.
The number of organisations participating in the recruitment drive went up by 15 per cent this year, and included overseas organisations too. If the pre-placement offers made to the students are taken into account, IIT Delhi crossed the 1000 mark this year. These pre-placement offers allow students to undergo internship at the companies before actually being formally absorbed by them.
