Capgemini has tied up with the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines) Dhanbad to develop innovative solutions for the aerospace, automotive and manufacturing industries. The partnership aims to foster industry-academia collaboration, particularly in the context of Capgemini Engineering and the application of low-carbon technologies for sustainability.
One of the main focus areas is to develop a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) framework to overcome some of the present challenges in the automotive and aerospace industry, such as product complexity management, net-zero sustainability solutions, enhanced safety, productivity and training in workspaces. Additionally, Capgemini is providing project management, mentoring, funding and Subject Matter Expert (SME) support to the students working on this project.
Nisheeth Srivastava, chief technology and innovation officer for Capgemini in India said, “The uniqueness of the collaboration is based on the digital co-innovation framework that we formulated with the IIT (ISM) Dhanbad’s accomplished academics and student interns.” He is confident that given IIT (ISM)Dhanbad’s “mature and illustrious research capabilities and Capgemini’s deep focus around industry-oriented techno-functional business models,” the project will definitely be able to “deliver innovative cross-sectoral solutions to help our clients get the future they want.”
Capgemini hopes to develop synergies with premier academic and research institutions in India and tap into the collective power of outside-in innovations, co-creating solutions for real-world business challenges, and at the same time helping academia connect with contextual business requirements, while enhancing industry knowledge in their student community.
Prof. Rajiv Shekhar, director, IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, is sure that the collaboration will ”expose our students to state-of-the-art AI, IOT and other technologies.” Capgemini will also support the IIT (ISM) Dhanbad faculty “to integrate real-life case studies of the implementation of intelligent industry technologies in the academic curriculum.”
Capgemini is keen to instil an innovative mindset in students through industry exposure, and provide them with deep technical expertise to make them future ready. The students of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad working on this project are presently a part of Capgemini’s internship programme.
