Cummins India, a power solutions technology firm, today announced the winners of its flagship B-school case study competition – REDEFINE 2023. Team ‘Vision’ from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Mumbai, secured the top position, seizing the coveted trophy and a cash prize. This year marked another successful edition of REDEFINE for the seventh consecutive year.
The runner-up spot went to Team Comeback from SP Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai. Now both the victorious teams will participate in a mentorship programme led by Cummins India leadership.
The theme for this year was ‘Unlocking the Power of Digitalisation in the Aftermarket,’ which attracted an impressive 3752 students forming 938 teams from 18 of the nation’s top B-schools. After thorough evaluation rounds, six finalist teams were chosen and brought to Pune for the two-day grand finale.
Furthermore, the event included insightful leadership talks and networking sessions, exclusive tours of the Cummins Technical Centre India and the Kothrud Engine Plant, and concluded with the jury evaluation round held at the Cummins India Office Campus (IOC).
During the grand finale ceremony, the chosen finalists showcased their solutions to a jury panel from Cummins India, which comprised Anupama Kaul, human resources leader; Subramanian Chidambaran, strategy leader; and Vivek Malapati, vice president, distribution business unit and new and recon parts organisation. The ceremony was graced by the presence of senior leaders and employees of the company.
Additionally, the company organised a series of engaging activities for the students participating in REDEFINE, including a video podcast featuring jury members Malapati and Chidambaran, exploring the complexities of the Aftermarket Distribution Network and operational dynamics of the On-Highway Distribution. The podcast also shed light on this year’s case study theme.
An interactive leadership session was conducted to familiarise students with the company’s mission, vision, business strategy and technology, followed by a quiz competition to assess participants’ knowledge of industry trends, business dynamics, technological advancements, and their understanding of Cummins.
In her remarks at the event, Anupama Kaul, human resources leader, India ABO, Cummins India, emphasised that REDEFINE is crafted to inspire students to tackle real-world business challenges with inventive and forward-thinking solutions. “As a jury member, I had the privilege of witnessing the exceptional talent and ingenuity that emerging young talent brought to the table. The modern solutions and creative insights presented by the competing teams were sublime. It reaffirms our strong faith in the incredible potential and capabilities of the potential leaders,” she added.
Speaking on the occasion, Subramanian Chidambaran, strategy leader, Cummins India, also contributed his insights, stating, “Year after year, REDEFINE provides us with the invaluable opportunity to engage with the brightest minds and the future stars of the business world. Their innovative thinking and visionary solutions consistently serve as a wellspring of inspiration for us.”
The other shortlisted teams included Hellios from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Lucknow; The Benchwarmers from Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development, Pune; Synergy from Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai; Inquisitors from NMIMS, Mumbai.
