Meghalaya government has decide to hike the dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) by three per cent, effective from 1 July, 2023. This hike will be given to all its state-government employees along with pensioners and family pension holders.
The current rate of 36 per cent will now be raised to 39 per cent.
This adjustment is not only limited to regular state- government employees but also extends to members of the work-charged establishment and casual workers (excluding Bungalow Peons) holding posts in pay levels equivalent to those of their counterparts in the regular establishments/services/posts.
In terms of payment, any fractions of 50 paise and above in the DA and DR will be rounded off to the next higher rupee. Fractions less than 50 paise will be disregarded. For instance, if an employee’s calculated DA is Rs. 150.75, the payment would be rounded up to Rs. 151. Conversely, if another employee’s DA is Rs. 200.40, the payment remains Rs. 200, as the fraction (40 paise) is less than 50 paise.
For the payment of DR to pensioners, the government has put a provision in place. If a pensioner or family pensioner decides to work again for the State or Central Government, or if they become part of a permanent position in a government-related company, corporation, or organisation, their DR under these orders will be temporarily suspended. The suspension will be lifted upon the conclusion of such employment or re-employment.
To account for these adjustments, the payment related to DA and DR as per these orders will be debited to the respective heads of accounts from which employees receive their salary. Similarly, pensioners and family pension holders will see an adjustment in their pension-related accounts.
