To foster innovation and cultivate a highly skilled local workforce, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Roorkee has formalised a collaboration with chipmaker Micron by signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU).
The MoU marks the beginning of an enhanced alliance. To bolster this collaboration, a dedicated Micron semiconductor lab has been inaugurated at the Department of electronics and communication engineering within the institute.
The MoU was inked by Prof KK Pant, director, IIT Roorkee and Anand Ramamoorthy, managing director, Micron India.
The collaborative efforts outlined in the partnership include advancing research, offering experiential learning opportunities for students, conducting student recruitment activities, and facilitating industry-relevant training.
Furthermore, the Micron lab will prioritise technical skills, processes and resources essential for IIT-Roorkee’s growth. This will be achieved through student internships, fellowships, specialised Master’s and doctoral degree programmes, an augmented curriculum, a physical lab, and collaboration with professors focused on students’ technical development.
The move highlights IIT-Roorkee’s dedication to spearheading advancements, and paying a pivotal role in leading the charge towards shaping India’s semiconductor landscape. During the event, the institute also expressed its aspiration to realise the vision of a developed India by 2047, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
