Singularity 6, a Los-Angeles- based game studio, has announced a significant reduction in its workforce, with approximately one third of its staff being laid off. The decision will impact 35 per cent of its workforce.
The studio explained that this decision was made after a careful evaluation of the support required for the Massively Multiplayer Online (MMO).
Despite the layoffs, the company has said it will assist all its departing employees through this transition. The company is committed to offering them severance packages, assistance with job placement and career guidance, and allowing them to retain all equipment provided by the company.
Singularity 6 emphasised that this decision was made after thorough consideration of the studio’s development and business needs to best support Palia and its community.
Founded in 2018 by Aidan Karabaich and Anthony Leung, both formerly of Riot Games, the Los Angeles-based developer had raised $30 million in funding in 2021, primarily allocated towards Palia’s development. The game was launched in August 2023 and recently surpassed six million players.
Singularity 6 is known for creating immersive, community-driven experiences. Founded by former developers from Riot Games, its mission centres around building social simulation games that foster connections and meaningful interactions among players.
Their flagship title, “Palia’, is set in a vibrant fantasy world where players can build homes, form friendships and explore a rich, evolving environment. With a focus on inclusivity and player-driven storytelling, Singularity 6 aims to redefine the MMO genre by prioritising community engagement and collaborative gameplay experiences.
