Amid challenging macroeconomic conditions, Accenture has recently laid off 19,000 employees. However, despite the company announcing thousands of job cuts, the company is yet to disclose the specifics on the layoffs. While this uncertainty prevails, word has been spreading that the company might be hiring for certain positions.
The company has posted several job openings on its official LinkedIn page. These vacancies include positions such as partner for services marketing executive, media relations for capital markets, specialist for analyst relations writer, and others.
This could’ve come after the company made announcements to keep hiring new employees even after the big layoff announcement. It was supposed to be a support activity towards its strategic growth initiatives. In the second quarter of fiscal 2023, the company also initiated actions to streamline operations and transform non-billable corporate functions to reduce costs, but still emphasised its intention to hire.
The rationale behind Accenture’s layoffs is attributed to cost-saving measures, as stated by the company. Another contributing factor is over hiring, with the company having previously hired new employees to meet both present and projected future demand. As of February 2023, Accenture’s headcount had increased to approximately 738,000, up from 699,000 in February 2022.
Additionally, the company stated that this reduction in workforce amounts to around 2.5 per cent of its current workforce. However, Accenture clarified that the layoffs would not be immediate, and the process will continue over the next 18 months. As per the regulatory filing, Accenture expects that the layoffs will primarily affect non-billable corporate functions, and over half of the departures will be from these areas.
