Seventeen million jobs are likely to open up in the textiles sector, which presently has more than 45 million employees. The Textiles Ministry recently revealed that 8.58 lakh people have been trained in partnership with 58 government and industry bodies in the last four years, to fulfil the sector’s requirement for skilled workers.
With the Ministry all set to push exports by diversifying markets, and promoting collaborative exports, it is not surprising that the need for additional strength in the workforce is being felt in the textiles sector.
Markets in Vietnam, Indonesia, South Korea, Australia, Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Russia, Brazil, Chile, Columbia and Peru have been identified for diversification of textiles exports.
