On Wednesday, the government of Chattisgarh, announced various incentives for government employees, along with raising dearness allowance (DA) by 4 per cent. The decision will benefit approximately five lakh employees in the state.
This marks the second time this month that the government has raised the DA for employees. On July 6, it had already raised it by 5 per cent. However, the goverment clarified that the it would incur an extra expense of Rs 800 crore due to the recent announcement. Additionally, it was also mentioned that with this decision, the dearness allowance (DA) for state government employees has now reached parity with that of central government employees.
Along with increasing the DA, the government also revealed a significant 27 per cent raise in the salaries of 37,000 contract workers. This decision is said to be made in response to the discussions on the proposals put forward in the first supplementary budget for the ongoing fiscal year 2023-24. Moreover, the decision will result in an additional expenditure of ?350 crore for the state.
Among the other announcements made by the government, it also revealed plans to increase the monthly salary of daily wage earners by Rs 4000. Additionally, police constables will receive an annual allowance of Rs 8000.
All the decisions were made during the recent monsoon assembly session, where the government unveiled its pre-election declarations amounting to Rs 2,000 crore while discussing the supplementary budget of Rs 6,031 crore for the current fiscal year.
