However, the load on the State’s treasury will increase by Rs 40,000 crore.

Almost 20 lakh employees of the Maharashtra government will be able to enjoy the benefit of 7th Pay Commission, with effect from January 1, 2019.

Employees and teachers of the State Government had gone on a strike over this issue in August, 2018 following which a Committee had been formed to look into the same.

While the report is still awaited, the decision to pass on the benefits of the 7th Pay Commission to 20 lakh employees of the State Government has been taken, and will come into effect beginning next year.

The arrears worth Rs 10,000 crore , from 2016 onwards, will also be cleared over a period of five weeks. The dearness allowance will be paid for the previous 14 months.
